Black Plymouth Rocks are a variety in their own right and striking
in appearance, however, they also appear as sports from Barred Plymouth
Rocks (these have much darker leg colour). Confusion is also added
by the 'Black Rock', a commercial hybrid originating from a Rhode
Island Red x Barred Plymouth Rock mating.
Black Plymouth Rocks - beetle green. One of the most important plumage considerations of Black Plymouth Rocks is that they should have a lustrous beetle-green glow or 'sheen'. When this is combined with the correct Plymouth Rock type, bright yellow legs, orange eyes, and a red face it is quite endearing. Black

breed relatively small numbers of stock each year but do have spare
birds or eggs available to Plymouth Rock enthusiasts from time to time.
